Julie Bargman of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dirtstudio.com\">D.I.R.T. Studio,<\/a> which works on reclaiming post-industrial sites and was also involved in the regeneation of Ford&#8217;s River Rouge Plant, described the inspired plan.\u00a0The\u00a0seeds sprouted into a big success with landscaping along the abandoned elevated railway tracks\u00a0a glorious\u00a0park full of flowers, trees,\u00a0plants &#8212; and people &#8212;\u00a0adding color and texture above Manhattan&#8217;s lower West Side.\u00a0 And now it&#8217;s extending northward.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/robertacruger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/rail-inspired-grasslands.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-30\" title=\"Rail-inspired grasslands\" src=\"https:\/\/robertacruger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/rail-inspired-grasslands.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"365\" srcset=\"https:\/\/robertacruger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/rail-inspired-grasslands.jpg 480w, https:\/\/robertacruger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/rail-inspired-grasslands-300x228.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Like different rooms, a series of\u00a0areas unfolds, including the Chelsea Grasslands with drought-tolerant grasses and drip irrigation to keep it green. A compost tea of natural fish fertilizer and molasses or flour for bacteria and fungi is brewed overnight. I like these rail-like troughs above mixed with the real rails. Julie referred to the importance of integrating parts of\u00a0former industrial sites as an homage to our history. The High Line landscaping was designed by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fieldoperations.net\">James Corner Field Operations <\/a>and Piet Oudolf with architectual firm <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dsrny.com\">Diller Scofidio + Renfro<\/a>.
